Larry Gagosian for Cover of D2 Magazine

Last week I was asked to do a portrait of Larry “Go-Go” Gagosian for D2 magazine. D2 is Norway’s equivalent to the New York Times Magazine, a weekly glossy supplement in the sunday edition of Dagens Næringsliv. A quick perusal of D2 reveals speedboats, coffee, strappy sandals, and fancy ladies.

Yep, that pretty much covers everything in my life.

The assignment ended up being done pretty fast, with the deadline moved up but I think the final turned out pretty well. Big Red Nose.

Larry’s nickname apparently comes from his endless energy. I was hoping for something a little more shocking, but not everyone has a secret history of bear wrestling.

Prescription for Confusion...

Las Vegas Weekly just put up a post for the illustration that I did for them last week. The piece was about the role of the pharmacist in prescription drug abuse. On the whole, I have never really had a meaninguful interaction with the pharmacy, just long lines, numbers, and too much money coming out of my pocket. If I had to also deal with some RX giving me a questioning stare or lecture, I might lose my mind.

Fun times.

The First Whispers of Spring

Last night Kylie and I went to Benny's for dinner and what became a pretty amazing drink experience. Combining the strength of the blended margarita machine, the subtle texture of well tequila, and the smooth drinkability of cheap mexican beer (bottled in Ohio) the Eliminator was born.

I couldn't really say whether the drink was good or not, the entertainment value kind of overshadowed everything. We talked about the Sheperd Fairey copyright issue over his Obama poster, which he is filing suit over today. Milton Glaser weighed in over at Print the other day.

So, with depressing economic news in the dead of winter it was nice to look deep into my glass and feel the first signs of spring in the city. Can't wait to get these legs out into the sun.

Gen Art Pulse - New York Profile....

Picture 7

Jessica Adams over at Gen Art Pulse, a weekly newsletter from Gen Art which is an organization showcasing new artistic talent, and fashion events. They asked me what I've been listening to lately, check out the list. I love it when you get to ramble, and then some nice literate person cleans your incoherent email an makes you look nice.

Thanks Jessica!

Design for Mankind

Bowie

Design for Mankind has a nice write-up of my recent work from the Paris trip. "Bowie!" (boys screaming)

Kylie and I got to go see selected Bowie videos at MOMA a few weeks ago, tracking the White Duke from the seventies to some more recent (and questionable) videos. Some of the earlier promo films are pretty amazing and it was great to see them in a theater.

Sadly, there was no Dancing in the Street with Mick Jagger, which has to be one of the greatest love stories of the age. The video screenings were part of a larger series of music based programs, pretty neat!

Lost at E Minor

Picture 1

What a nice thing to see on a Monday morning, Ilana Kohn over at Lost at E minor did a nice profile of my recent work for Kiehls that was in their holiday advertising. Lost at E Minor is one of those site that I find myself coming back to again and again between work and I really like all the contributions from the artists on the site.

They also just profiled James Blagden, who's paintings are really awesome. Check them out.
